Winter '64, February 2008

In February, we attended the last in the successful series of Winter '64 events, recreating the conditions of troops in winter quarters.


Memorial Day Parade, May 30, 2007

On Memorial Day we marched in the Baldwinsville Memorial Day parade, taking part in the ceremony following the parade.


Oakwood Cemetary Statue Unveling, November 11, 2006

In November, we re-dedicated the Civil War Veterans' section of Oakwood Cemetary, complete with the unveiling of the replaced Sentinel Statue.


Chatham Manor Living History, July 1-3, 2005

In July, we attended the Chatham Manor Living History, representing the 7th Regiment, Wisconsin Infantry at Fredericksburg. It was extremely hot, but a good time was had by all. Click on image for a larger version.

Winter 1864, February 20-22, 2004

In February, two of our members braved the cold and attended Winter 1864 in Newfane, NY. Accomodations were period, as were the activities. Reports were very positive. Click on image for a larger version.
Restored flag and display dedication, November 10, 2003

On November 10, hard work and perseverence paid off as Onondaga County dedicated the flags that have returned from the conservators. The flags are displayed in a case paid for by fundraising efforts of the 122nd NY. See our page on preservation by clicking the link above. Click on image for a larger version.

Antietam Living History and Preservation March, September 26-28, 2003

The 122nd NY participated in with the Potomac Legion in the Antietam Battlefield Living History and Preservation March. This event raised over $10,000 for preservation, and allowed participants to engage in living history scenarios never before allowed on National Park Service property. Pictured from the top, left to right: the battalion breaks at the Mumma farm after the Cornfield scenario as the 9th Penna. Reserves; the battalion prepares to charge the Sunken Road as the 69th New York of the Irish Brigade; the battalion approaches Burnside's Bridge; the battalion charges across Burnside's Bridge as the 51st Pennsylvania; a dedication was held at the National Cemetary to honor those that fell during the Battle of Antietam and elsewhere. Genesee Country Village Reenactment, July 2003

Memorial Day, May 30, 2003

The 122nd New York participated in the Memorial Day Parade in Baldwinsville, NY. The majority of soldiers of Company A, 122nd NY were from Baldwinsville and the surrounding area. It was a beautiful evening for a parade, complete with firing for the crowd. Click on image for a larger version.


McDowell, May 2003

Once again, the 122nd NY participated in the reenactment of the Battle of McDowell, along with scenarios involving the occupation of the town. Also once again, the event was outstanding. Click on image for a larger version.

CR Camp of Instruction, April 2003

Weather once again conspired to dampen (or freeze!) the COI weekend. And once again, participants proved too reslilient for that. Despite the cold weather and thick coat of ice, training and comeraderie went on, almost as planned. Click on image for a larger version.

Skaneateles Historical Society, June 2002

Memorial Day, May 2002

On Memorial Day weekend, the 122nd NY visited Oakwood Cemetary, replacing the worn headstone of Capt. Dudley Shirley. Present for the replacement of the stone were descendents of Capt Shirley. Unit members marched in the Baldwinsville Memorial Day parade, which is on the actual holiday. Click on an image for a larger version.

Recon 2, Incident at Todd's Tavern, May 2002

The 122nd New York attended Recon 2 in May, 2002, portraying members of the 140th PVI. Chris Piering acted as battalion commander, with some members acting in staff roles. Others served in the ranks of Company A, led by Mike Murley. Click on an image for a larger version.


Columbia Rifles Camp of Instruction, April 2002

In April, the 122nd NY attended the COI hosted by the Columbia Rifles at Fort Ontario in Oswego, NY. Fort Ontario proved to be an excellent site for the camp, as it had facilities to do some drill indoors while it poured rain outside. In the photos above you can see folks taking a break outside the enlisted mens' barracks, where most stayed for the night. Also shown, the company formed in front of the barracks, and some skirmish drill - Rally by Section. The bottom row of photos shows members of the 122nd getting ready to bed down for the night in the guard room to the north of the sally port. The site manager tells us that we were the first people to sleep in that room since 1869. Also on the bottom row is a photo of Mark Pflum of the RLHA giving a talk on gun (BIG gun) safety. Flag Moving Ceremony, February 2002

On February 13, 2002, a ceremony was held at the Onondaga County courthouse to celebrate the moving of the remaining Civil War battle flags to the conservator. The National Colors of the 149th NY Volunteers were unfurled for the public to see for the first time in nearly 100 years. In the photo to the left are members of the 122nd NY with County Clerk Ann Ciarpelli, County Executive Nicholas Pirro and County Legislator William Meyer. Click on an image for a larger version.


Boy Scout Jamboree, October 2001

In October, members of the 122nd NY attended a Boy Scout Jamboree near Utica, NY. The boys were excited to line up in mock battle line, and to see the weapons and equipment used during the war. Click on an image for a larger version.

Potomac Legion Living History, August 2001

Members of the 122nd NY participated in the Potomac Legion Living History, portraying the 1st Minnesota Volunteer Infantry. At this event, we were again fortunate to be among those chosen as the color guard. It was an awe inspiring experience to have camped and drilled on the very same ground occupied by the "Minnesota First" during the second day of the battle of Gettysburg. Memorial Day Weekend, May 2001

Members of the 122nd NY participated in Memorial Day activities over the Memorial Day weekend. Members assisted in the placement of over 1700 flags on the graves of US veterans in Oakwood Cemetary on Saturday morning. Following the placement of flags there, the 122nd participated in a ceremony honoring those buried in Syracuse's historic Rose Hill Cemetary. On Monday, the 122nd was part of a dedication ceremony honoring Dr. Mary Walker, recipient of the Medal of Honor, and others buried in Rural Cemetary, Town of Oswego. Dr. Walker is the only woman ever awarded the Medal of Honor. Click on image for a larger version.


Gillette Road Middle School, May 2001

McDowell Living History and Reenactment, May 2001

Members of the 122nd New York attended the McDowell Living History. Most served on the color guard, with the exceptions of Chris Piering who served with the regimental music, and the other Chris Piering, who served as commander of the duty company, as well as Second Lieutenant of C Company. Garr Gast served as third/fourth sergeant for Co C. This was a fantastic event. Yet to be posted is a photo from a glass plate taken by Robert Szabo. Click on image for a larger version.


Columbia Rifles Camp of Instruction, March/April 2001

Members of the 122nd New York at the Camp of Instruction event, sponsored by the Columbia Rifles. Though the weather was not the nicest, the event was a fantastic learning experience, and fun was had by all.
